For this Friday's Happy Hour we are having 2009 Cupcake Vineyards Cabernet Savignon from California's Central Coast.
I keep coming back to this wonderful, fresh, rich wine, which tastes as if one just bit into a sweet, juicy dark cherry.
Since I have an affinity for cupcakes, when I saw the label, it was really a no-brainer, especially at just $8.99 a bottle. The wine is very aromatic, hinting at blackberries, currants and of course, cherries. The taste is quite rich, smooth, and flavorful, despite its appropriate dryness it possesses the same type of sweetness one would get from a ripe, dark berry.
You will notice in the first photo it is "paired" with the duck pâté, which indicates (correctly) we had it with the duck. Although duck may be paired with such red wines as Bordeaux or Beaujolais (see, e.g. Julia Child's suggestions), it works quite well with this Cabernet Savignon which compliments the sweetness of the orange sauce. I highly recommend this wine, and I would get it again, (and again).
